Well, to try and see all sides:
The recipient of the award can benefit from a career standpoint with additional "prestige" that may come with the award. It may help with endorsements if needed, or gaining subscribers on social media.
Drumeo benefits because people will pay attention (for the moment). It may raise overall awareness for them as well as potentially making them more important because the drum industry as a whole will want to be involved if the awards become successful.

I did find it interesting that many awards were named after drummers. "The Buddy Rich Award", "The Tony Williams Award" etc.

It's not very "jazzlike" or "session-musician-it's-all-about-what-you-hear-like."

but

This is the music business, it's always been like that in the pop business and that young chick that got the IG award, or whatever, does know how to play and is pretty hawt.

Just do your own thing and try to do the best with what you have.

People have always complained about this stuff. Regardless of if it's envy or if it's justified, it's just a waste of time.

It's hardly like the jazz world doesn't have cliques and shady social shit going on. There's plenty of that stuff everywhere.

As long as you can play music you like and you're able ot make some sort of living you don't have one FAQing thing to complain about.

There's plenty to criticize about Drumeo.

There's not one single lesson on the entire platform that goes in depth on anything. It's introduction and presentation. If you want more you'll have to elsewhere.

Another one is the story it taking me 2 whole years to be able unsubscribe. No owning up, blaming others and never ever even bringing up the notion of a refund. That's a seriously bad way to run a business. I don't trust them at all. This was mostly communication with Dave.

The marketing tactic that Jared used when building the company were also annoying as hell.

The first products they were selling and self produced DVD lessons were also complete and utter crap.

Mike's just is just fine. He's honest about how he wants to present material, what he teaches and why he does things the way he does which doesn't work for everybody. I don't need to give this constant spiel about these insecurities that we're all supposed to have that aren't even real and the point to me is to just avoid in the first place. Enough already! There's a little bit I can relate to in how I build a teaching environment, but academically it's way different. I teach mostly kids and the occasional adult beginner though though and I don't want them to have unnecessary holes or unhealthy attitudes. There is a way to do that if you're simply curious and don't have an ego that prevents you from evaluating your results as a teacher objectively. That's pretty much the death of growth in any field, really. Who will never have those qualities? The narcs, obviously.

Maybe I should start my own thing and call it Strumeo.

Well, when you have guys like DiCenzo on Drumeo, I say AMEN !!!
Great sound and production, of course Drumeo have some great contend, the Awards are pointless for me, but hey, why not.
Right on, at the end Drumeo/Jared does some great stuff for the drum community.
