I think when a drummer's had a long Weckl phase in their young life, you can really hear it in their Latin/Cuban/Brazilian playing. Even guys from those countries, like Kiko from Brazil.

I'm not sure I hear those things as much when guys like Almond play other genres, possibly because young Weckl didn't really sound like Weckl until later in his career when he played more conventional American music. He sounded more like Gadd (to me). But, IMO, Weckl has always sounded like Weckl when playing Latin-inspired stuff.

What about zach D? he was fairly weckl-y for awhile wasnt he?

I discovered Zach on Leni Stern "Closer To The Ligh", some beautiful music and great musicians on it. Dennis, Wayne Krantz, David Sanborn, and to me Zach plays more under Vinnie's influence than Dave.
