WOW...so this "guy" hates Dave's music...admits he is a great musician,
comments on his face while playing which he sees as cringe worthy (we
are 7 mins into the video). Now this is a guy who wanted to know what
jazz music was in HS, and went to the mall a few times a year (ever hear of a library?)
to get inspiration, maybe ask another high school what their "jazz" band plays...
switch the FM station far left or right?

At 10 min mark goes into what real music is really like...Sweet Home Alabama
and fusion music is using your musical powers for evil. (I was still waiting for
his salient analysis of why he made this video). He sums it up so well, "These players
are selfish lovers." lol

One of the most intelligent and equally ignorant rednecks Ive heard on YT!

His next video? Why Max Roach is as bad as an actual roach.

At the end of the day it just reflects poorly on anyone who goes that route. Literally nothing good comes from it, there is no value to it.
Because analyzing is such a large part of any art, it makes sense to cover all aspects of it. Negative and positive. It's something I've given some thought to in terms of how to be constructive. Lately I've found it useful to not compare things at all, or even use a better/worse context. Instead I simple acknowledge strengths and weaknesses of all sides of an issue/art/person.
Not everything is good. It's OK to say that something may not be. How one says it is key, as with many things.

Also it's worth mentioning that (whoever that guy in the video is) - wants to be that guy. He acts like it's under duress almost but it takes a lot of effort to make and upload a video. He wants to be that guy.
And now he is.

Dave has majorly changed my life for the better on at least two occasions by showing me what it takes to be a better drummer and musician. One clinic with him many years ago in Ypsilanti Michigan made a gigantic impression, how to get a better hand position, how to practice, how to THINK.

This virtue signaling douchebag, zero times.

That said, it's hard to listen to Dave's music for me, but I don't listen to much fusion anymore.

Dave is my Hero! He is a prime example of someone who gets better because of the hard work he puts into his craft. There was an interview with him from the 90s somewhere where he bashed his previous work as being too rigid and straight. He talked through the whole interview about how he was going to change his approach. He did and not even 10 years later he was grooving harder than ever . He was awesome in the 80s. These days he has evolved so much that he has surpassed his 80s self and ended up being timeless. Imo his work will be studied and enjoyed for generations. So this dude bashing Dave in a video is absolutely off his rocker .
There is nothing left to say.

My favorite DW is on the first Corea EB with "King Cockroach", and on Camilo "Why Not", I love also like his 3 first solo album.
I think he grooved harder back then, though is a way better drummer now, he was already a legend in my book.

This was a drumming game changer.
