There's some clean and crisp drumming on Gal Costa's 1979 album "Gal Tropical."

Tonight I had to find out who the drummer was: Charles Chalegre.

I found some clips from Montreaux in 1980:

I really enjoyed this interview, though mostly for Devin Townsend. He’s in a completely different league artistically- in my view. JP is a little too pleased with his own analysis and stories, but overall I think it’s worth the hour and a half of watching.
