Wow! That transcription of Philly Joe's Salt Peanuts solo is impressive. Great work! I've listened to that solo many times and it's a revelation to see it written out. Thank you!

AMEN! That first cymbal hit I knew this guy was together.
Very satisfying pocket indeed. That soloing vamp was
crazy good. Yikes...

The Tony Williams guy is great...this is a guy you want to
take lessons from. Great communicator.

More deep pocket...

Found this VERY enjoyable...what a real and humble cat! WOW...

He's obviously a great drummer, but playing along to a recording, with the existing drums in the mix along with his own drums, will only result in a fatter sound than what is really happening.

This is nice.

I found an old book on syncopated rolls by Jim Blackley, 1962. Saw it mentioned and could only find it on Scribd. Lots of good stuff on that site actually. This comment shows certain things don't go out of style.

Locking that way with a drum recording is REALLY hard.

This along with Standing in the Shadows of Motown and the Muscle Shoals Doc
are required viewing! These three groups of musicians MADE popular music!
Then take the next generation...the TOTO boys and the rest moving in in the
70s...

It's not only hard, it's impossible. It makes it sound deceptively fat.
