This drum sound just kills...Carmine was on top of it!

Love me some Carmine Appice...but let's not leave out his little brother. Vinny (as opposed to Vinnie :D ) is a rock-solid rock drummer in his own right. Great groove for this style.

Yeah...Vinnie A is solid...his work w Rick Derringer is great!
With that style, I'll add Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow-I Surrender; Stone Cold)
and the rock monster Cozy Powell

Incubus...another HOD eye opener...would never listen to this band but
liked that tune. Great hat mix! 16th note hat groove takes me here;

Wow Smith's snare sounds amazing! @1:46 was THE moment that changed
everything for me...LA Coliseum, Journey on one of those all day bills
and The Babys were on that gig (Jon Cain) got friendly...when Smith went
into his blasts at 1:46 I never heard anything like this before...STUNNED...
friends all dropped our jaws in awe! WHO WAS THIS GUY??? What JUST happened?
Went home and my sister babysat for some guy who worked for Warner Records...
would bring records home...what do I see, Enigmatic Ocean with the same drummer
of Journey...no clue what he was doing but I was hooked on music outside of rock
after that. Smith has so much control and musicality...he was above the fray
from all other drummers in his day playing in a rock band. Like watching a
Cheetah run wild along the safari...

Thie first time I heard this, I had no idea what was going on. I thought when Larrie Londin said Steve Smith was a double bass monster, I wasn't quite sure about that, I had only heard the hits. The really was like putting Jean-Luc Ponty's drummer in a pop-rock band.

I ended up here this evening. Steve Jordan was just sick in this band. Whole band was nuts.

This is a Journey songs most fans even back in the 70s with Perry never knew existed...
early Journey...how many bands go from this to Who's Cryin' Now?

Never saw this before...steve lays it out...if not for this band i would not be playing rock music!
thank you Herbie Herbert!
