I'm 42. When I think of my 21 year old self I shake my head. Can't believe some of the stuff I was into. Don't think drummers have changed as a group, though. There will always be generational gaps. Guarantee when you were a kid, there was some cranky old drummer who thought the same of you.

I'm probably the youngest person here, and even I roll my eyes whenever Travis Barker or Joey Jordison gets mentioned as a great drummer. These kids today....

"Can you play quieter..?" its a rock gig

"I think it's dragging/rushing..." i have a click in my ears

"Is this enough room for you?" it's 3 square feet, half occupied by 1 of the guitarists 3 amps

"The gig pays good." how much? "It's not bad." no really how much? "Well the it's a free beer per set..."

Or your time is better than everyone else in the band. Happens all the time

...when you can suffer heat/hydration related cramping in both, right hand and right calf and finish out the last verse, chorus and outro to "Runnin' on Empty" using the left foot pedal and left hand only, all the while praying that it's not a stroke...and no one even noticed! Lesson learned...hydrate several hours before set up on a hot day.

...you do a thorough warmup before playing.

...you don't play rudiments/fills/fool around the drumkit during a rehearsal when your bandmates have something to say.

My answer goes more for the maturity, more than OLD:

When during the drum sound check, you only play quarter notes on each drum.
And when the soundman ask you to play the whole set, the smallest notes that you play are eights and sixteenths notes.

...You don't hit the crash cymbal after every fill.
...You don't move to the ride cymbal at the B-section of a tune.
...You don't fill.
...You suggest the tune would be better with no drums at all.
...Drinking beer at the rehearsals feels great again.
...You don't play double strokes as embellishments on the hihat.
...You don't play over the barline by accenting the quarter note on the bell of the ride while playing in 7/8 or 5/8.
...You don't use Hot Rods.
