I was digging through old video from years ago and found the first thing I ever saw from DD, which was from this forum.

Dude upped the bar with hihat wizardry and double-kick/tom combinations, though I always hesitate to praise just his licks since the whole package is obviously legendary....

Seeing this clip, it's me or Dave has always been underrated ? :o
I mean, I love all the Chris Coleman and shit, but damn, why Dave is not a huge name in this foocking music biz ? Because he decided safely to become teacher at Berklee ?

Anyway, he's really no joke since ages !!! :o
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

The correlation between fame and skill isn't all that great.

Dave could probably be more well know if he wanted to.

Teaching is a calling too and and i understand that very well. Helping others grow and find their own voice is very satisfying. If things work out a bit better than they've done for me, which I hope they mostly do, it's a more stable and comfortable situation. You can still play if you teach, but you don't have to make any compromises if your money is coming from elsewhere.

The whole thing of punching in like at a factory, but working with teaching music all day feels more or less like summer camp all day every day if that's what you like doing.

Just for checking, I went to compare the number of view between Dave and Anika on Drumeo, nothing against her of course, but she get way more views than Dave, people are listening with their bloody eyes, sad...

Well, there's also a bunch of very lightly clothes young females that have probably more views than both of them. It's probaly not only horny old men watching them either. It's probably a lo of 14 yo both boys and girls, than spend way more time on youtube than most grown ups.

With all the posities of social media this is part of the downside. Not so much that it's available, but the simple fact that certain things need insight, knowledge and growth to be appreciated and with everything available at the click of a button that process has to be inspired in some different way.

We all have to start somewhere, though. We all did that and grew as we started checking out the influences of our first incfuences or just wanted some thing new. It's one of the main broad picture things I think of as a teacher. Traditional classical training done by amateurs is just as much of a hinderance than modern media though, like it always was. Sort of a small town thing, but also a general micro environment thing, which means it can exist amywhere.

At least there's a choice that's in pracice more up to you when it's avaiable. All that's needed is a little inspirtion, a tiny push.

Then you have the whole idea of generl independant thought that woould long term solve all our problems, so it's all connected.

When I talk to people of all ages I'm not at all convinved things were better before, though. Most kids are in general more likely to give something a chance than the old farts that listen to only one type of music. It must also still be okay to simply not like something even if you gave it a chance. The attitude is just to be able to look at something as different rather than inferior.

Regarless of general quality and depth most of us have a connection with the pop music we grew up with. It was valid and right for us then and now it's value is childhood memories.

bits n pieces...bits n pieces...
I OD'd on Dave the other day...I can comprehend maybe
10% of what he does and grab hold of small little bits that
apply to my arsenal of goodies. Dave is from another planet...
some might just absorb his approach and energy, while others
break down a figure to make it their own...bits n pieces...
