Hey guys...
I´m happy with my new 1979´s Supra, but heck, this thing detunes really fast... (mostly on the lug where I put my rimshots)
Are you using lug locks or something like that?
btw, is the p86 worth the upgrade? The original strainer is quite flanky...
Thanks!
J.

Remove any lubricant from the tension rods, possibly even drying them with a cloth and make them rust just a tiny bit
by sprinkling a bit of water on them.

Another option is to use a little LockTite Blue (NOT red) on your tuning rods.
Clean the rods and lug inserts thoroughly, getting all of the old grease or lube that exists off.
Paper towels on the rods and q-tips for the lug inserts work fine.
You can actually screw the q-tips down into the threads of the lug inserts.
LOCKTITE
Make sure you get the Blue. The Red is for keeps.

Re: Supra detuning fast...
its funny, ive had the same two questions about my Supraphonic Black Beauty. Mine is brand new and not a '79, but same idea. Ive even tried the little white lug locks, although i havnt put them all the way around the drum. im missing a few. It still detunes a bit.
I would also like to upgrade the strainer, but not sure.

Re: Supra detuning fast...
If you purposely rust the lugs they'll squeal/scream when you tune the drum really high. I mean when you actually turn the lugs not when you're playing the drum. Lug Locks and the Lock Tite are both good ideas.
Re: Supra detuning fast...
I've been using Tightscrews and they work beautifully. They're basically replacement tension rods with a slot cut down the side along the threads. The slot is filled in with a nylon insert that gets cut to conform to the threads when you first screw it down. The nylon grabs the inside of the lug thread and does a great job of holding it in place. I have them on my whole kit on the lugs that are closest to me (the ones that take the most pressure and tend to loosen up) Each drum may have 2 or three at the most. The only downside is that those lugs don't spin freely when you're changing heads so you have to physically turn them all the way out and in. It takes a little more time but the result is well worth it. Check em out.....

It takes a lot more time/effort to change heads with those screws. After changing heads on a couple Ahead snare drums a few times I hated those lugs. No big deal once you're happy with the heads and tuning but they are slow to take off.

Yes to the P86. Just give it a tiny drop of oil where all the pivot points are.
Try replacing the metal washers between the tension rods and hoop with nylon washers too. You can pick up white or black ones.
