Today 10, 12 and 14" seem to be the most common tom sizes...
Is anyone using anything else? There´s a nice Pearl Masters kit with 10, 12 and 16" I´ll try to test next week...
I wonder how hard it could be to have them to sound cohesive (especially the 12 and the 16)
What´s your take on tom sizes these days?
Anyone using 10, 12, 16?

I prefer larger tom-tom sizes because I prefer a tighter tension. Most high-end lines can be ordered a-la carte, so it's a non-issue.

I do. It's very versatile, the 16" floor is nice to play sambas too.

sometimes, depends on the gig/music and my mood. i have 8,10,12,14,16 so just pick and choose, though dont think ive ever used them all at once.

My recording customs were 10, 12 15. There was no 15 with the PHX so I went 10, 12 16.

Been using 10 and 16 of late and I seem to tune down the 10 a tad more.
Really digging it.

It's more comfortable to me to play bigger drums.

Pearl and Tama switch their colors a lot so it might be a problem if you wanted a matching 14". Maybe you have Basic Black and now it's Midnight Black or Flat Black or Black Sparkle... Pearl and Tama are bad for that. Yamaha seems to always have the same core colors.
Brooks Wackerman uses 10" 12" 16" 14" in that order. He prefers the 16" in the easier to ride position.

Oh yeah, aside from Gretsch, I don't think you can count on ANY company to keep offering the same finish. You really need to get everything you think you're ever going to want at the same time.

Yup, it might be no problem at all or a complete pain in the ass finding a match.
