Will Champion of Coldplay

Postby Da Chooch » Sat Sep 17, 2011 9:39 am

went to my first ACL Music Fest yesterday since moving to the ATX. got to see a few band like Bright Eyes & Ray La Montagne. Coldplay being the culmination of our day.

I didn't follow Coldplay too much but my wife's a big fan so I tagged along to support/ protect her from the mob. Turned out to be one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Will Champion (their drummer) was so impressive. He not only laid down some great grooves but his parts were impeccable. on top of that, the dude sang and played keys. Just made me think of the days when my pops used to tell me - "ya gotta learn the piano if you want to be a complete musician...". ya'lls should check out Coldplay should they come to your neck of the woods. really diggin this hip lil' town called Austin.

I tried to get into Coldplay when they first came on the scene years ago, but that drummer (not sure if it's the same guy) ruined it for me. I guess he's improved a lot since then. I"ll have to give them a listen again.

perhaps i've been fortunate / unfortunate to not have followed him from the start but he has such energy and conviction in his playing. his presence on stage reminds me of abe jr. You'd definitely have to love their songs to really appreciate his work. i guess you can say i'm a Coldplay fan now :)

Not one tom hit in that Cold Play video....arghh!!! I thought for sure at the end he was going to do a tasty fill into the final chorus but nope! Sometimes its awkward to not play a fill in a certain spot.

Cool video though. Thanks for sharing. Great sounding band live.

yes gentlemen, it definitely takes a certain set of muscles to be a song drummer. I, being a perpetual student of such a school. but that's what got me into drumming in the first place. the songs . . . :)
