I'm not sure, but those don't sound any different than any other Yamaha kit I've ever heard. The recording customs sound different though.

Not fan of that sound, pretty dead on the tom-tom, snare is nice, but I'm a HUGE J. Branly's fan anyway !!!

I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

I think those Yamaha's definitely sound different. More low end. Thicker. I bet they would sound good tuned high.

It's just those lugs that I can't wrap my head around. I'd never get them for that reason alone.

I'm starting to cringe when I hear a 10" tuned to that pitch. It's like a sore thumb how it stands out in a set of tom tones. Maybe stick it over to the left of the hats to give it a rest.

^^ Footage from Chuck Silvermans older video on cuban drummers, featuring Jimmy but also (the also great) Raul Pineda. Those guys grew up in cuba so they have the authenticity but they also have a lot of the fusiony influence as well. I met Raul a few times, nice guy, both MONSTER players currently in LA doing it. Raul has a solo CD that Weckl mixed I think.
