Sting w/ Vinnie on Letterman!

DId anyone else catch that? The band was great. They did Demolition Man, which I thought was a bit odd choice for a tune to be on Letterman, but they all did well. I am sure footage will be up on YouTube momentarily. Vinnie looked all intense.

Yes I saw it.
You are right. That was an odd choice of song to play.
Vinnie played real straight ahead (which the tune warrants.)
At the end you can see him take a deep breath as if the tune worked him hard.

I don't recall seeing David Sancious there. Maybe he was off doing something else. They did have the horn section sit it.

Sancious will not be a part of this upcoming tour. The lineup includes Dominic Miller and his son Rufus on guitars, Vinnie on drums, Peter Tickell on violin (and possibly his older sister Kathryn will be involved as well), Jo Lawry on backing vocals, violin, and percussion and Sting is 'back to the bass'.

'Copeland-ish'? Any comparison seems like quite an insult in my opinion....especially since witnessing Copeland's appearance on Letterman a few weeks ago. Vinnie is disciplined and has mastered numerous styles of music. That is why he has an open invitation to the Sting gig.

there's no comparison here.
Not my intention.
It's only an influence referred to the old good Stewart Copeland.
Stewart Copeland influenced an enormous number of drummers and you can find him in the drumming of almost every drummers out there.
Vinnie said more than one time that is really difficult to play the Police songs without playing some of Stewart's drum parts...
He's doing deliberately, and this is really normal; once you decide to do it, you do it.
Comparison it's not the word to use, never.
