Aynsley Dunbar is the right man for the job.

Not sure about Ansley...age factor. If we are thinking about Dunbar let's include
Les Binks. lol JP Live in Japan is an epic performance.

My top bids would be...
1. Steve Smith...nostalgic sake
2. Todd Sucherman...perfect fit on every level
3. Greg B
4. Shannon Forrest

These older bands need a guy with a strong hang factor on tour.
Need to be in range range conversationally, experience, know their
role, very secure personality, no addictions, willing to nail original
fills and grooves, visually appealing (a kit that looks good on stage
even if it means more drums than needed), be into the lighter/positive
vibe Journey is banking on today, and no drama...rock solid cat.
Omar filled in nicely, but there wasn't the personality factor...it was
Journey w/Omar...it ain't just about drumming, it is about connecting
to an audience that has a long history with the band.

Ha! Simon would eat that gig up. I'd imagine he's had his fill of rock for a while after Toto. Todd would kill it.

I'd love to see Steve Smith back with them. Not holding my breath though.

Ansley would be fun too. He played on allot of their best songs.




So sad and weird about Deen. I met him when the music store I worked at when I was a teenager had him in for a clinic. Super nice guy and monster rock player.

No matter who get's the seat, I'm not lining up for tickets. Without Steve Perry, it's not Journey to me. Sorry. Can't help it.

I love Aynsley, but he's probably not up for touring anymore at his age.

The Perry argument is mute...he cannot sing a set much less a tour.
He lost at least an octave...high tenors get screwed with age...there
are exceptions like Bobby Kimball...but no way Perry could do a tour
today even if he and Neal became best buds! It's just a fact...Perry
lives in rock eternity this way and still maintains a sense of empowerment
by going stealth. If he risked a gig with them, he would be exposed.
Shame is a powerful motivator to not do something! Besides, he makes
a ton of cash doing just that.

So it is either find a replacement or kill Journey...they are doing just fine
w/o the hardcore Perry fans since 2000...and I get the loyalty, but
the show must go on!

Perry can sing. Kimball lost it over ten years ago. If Journey had Perry, I would definitely buy tickets. Not for nostalgia, but because I really like Perry's singing.

Aynsley did some great stuff with Zappa. I love what he did in Jane too. Especially the fills at the end.

That Perry video is proof positive that the guy can still belt. And I’d bet if he geared his voice up for a tour, that he would be close to full on “him”.

But, he won’t. He’ll sit in San Fran. In his house. With his cats. And collect his royalty checks from Glee, and The Sopranos, and everything else that uses Journey songs. Like he has for decades now.

It’s a real bummer because the world loves to hear him sing in Journey. The window won’t be open forever.

Anything’s possible though. Who would have predicted that David Lee Roth would have gotten back in VH? They’re doing it and his voice really is torched.

Done right, Journey could be the next Eagles - Hell Freezes Over tour.
