cheap drums with a great sound
Re: cheap drums with a great sound
I also love Yamaha hardware for the light weight but pro quality. The tom holder has been the best in the business for years and they recently added infinitely adjustable cymbal tilters and a cool new x-hat. I'm a huge fan of Yamaha drums. When I'm asked by students which kit they should buy I tell them "buy whatever Yamahas you can afford".

I think the Gretch Catalina's fit this description. I bought my son a set on ebay...5 piece with hardware & cymbals & pedals for $650. With coated heads this kit sounds really nice....the floor tom is supreme. Snare is the weak link

I use Yamaha stands, mounts and pedals with my Gretsch.

love yammy hardware. the mid grade stuff works great. have some 20+ old stands and i love em. the pedals are ok also. those ball tom tom holders are great. you can angle them exactly where you want em.

Yeah, I just meant that just because I endorse the stuff, it doesn't mean my love for it isn't based on personal experience/preference

I have a 6-piece Catalina Maple kit. Sounds pretty damn good and for the price it`s just ridiculous. Didn`t really need the snare, but it's pretty decent IMO.
Re: cheap drums with a great sound
I've got the Gretsch Catalina bop kit- have had that set for about 5 years now. I only use it every now and then for a jazz gig, but I've been using the kick drum live with my band at acoustic/quieter gigs outdoors and it sounds fantastic and funky. Only downside is that it's hot as hell in Texas- so the color of the wrap has changed considerably from being out in the heat.

I was checking the Vision series from Pearl and it´s amazing the quality in that price range...
I´m glad the kids starting on drums have the chance to start with a decent kit...
Check out Taye.
I've been gigging on a Taye Rockpro kit for a couple years. Thing sounds amazing with Aquarian Modern Vintage heads, and a coated emad, plus their hard ware is legit.

Sonor 3007
Re: cheap drums with a great sound
I bought two years ago a drumcraft series 8 maple kit. I haven't found another decent maple kit for that price with really solid hardware. Maybe cadeson fits this categorie as well. I prefered this kit above the sonor 300x and gretsch renown maple. It's a new brand that must proof it self for the long term.
