I worked Sting's 60th birthday party at the Beacon Theater last night. It was an amazing show with guest appearances by Robert Downey, Jr., Rufus Wainwright, Mary J. Bligh, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock, Lady GaGa and Bruce Springsteen.

There were many musical highlights, and who knew Robert Downey, Jr. could sing, and good too! Sting was joined by his son on stage on a couple of songs and he looks and sounds like a much younger version of Sting. They sang the song Sting wrote for his father, 'Why Should I Cry For You?' and it was very poignant.

Lady GaGa joined Sting on 'King of Pain' where she referred to herself as the 'Queen' of pain. Springsteen was amazing with 'Hung My Head', 'Fields Of Gold' and with Sting sang his favorite Police song 'Can't Stand Losing You'. The finale of the concert had all the guest stars joining Sting on 'Every Breath You Take'. Sting's wife Trudy surprised her husband by having a bag pipe player come onstage with a highland band playing one of Sting's songs which he joined in on and the gesture obviously moved him.

The show was a private event and a limited amount of tickets were made available to Sting's fan club. This was an amazing show which was filmed and will hopefully be available in some form soon.

Downey did a good job. His CD isn't too bad with Bissonette, Vinnie and Wackerman.

Man... Gaga crapped all over that tune, and it was some weird version of it anyway... I didn't care for it. I love the original and this one does not capture the solemn mood of the tune whatsoever.

Well, was hoping Vinnie would be on tour with Sting , but, unless I read it wrong , Sting mentions in an interview ( looks like it's from Rolling Stone.com- just saw a post on Steve Hoffman forums that quoted another article..) his touring lineup....
Supposedly, his band will consist of two guitars, two violins, vocal and bass.... quote " so that's it - that's our band"

Maybe some one-offs with a full band?
