Advice needed: Yamaha vs Ludwig

Postby electrizer » Sun Sep 22, 2013 6:58 am

Hello!

I've been asked for advice regarding kit choice but I dont know much about these two. It's between Yammie Birch Custom Absolute vs Ludwig Keystone. The guy plays reggae with several projects but other people will use it in his studio to record a bunch of different stuff.

The Yamaha is 10x08" 12x09" , 16x14" floor tom + 22x18, and the Ludwig is same but with a 14x7 snare. The former is also $575 cheaper (according to his sources).

Your help will be appreciated, fellas!

Regards
P.

Those are very different drum sets. Apples and Oranges. Are these specific used kits you're talking about? If so, what are the finishes?

Yes, the very ones. The finish on Ludwig is Pewter Glass Glitter. Don't know about Y.

My personal opinion for him would be to go with Yamaha, since I've always loved their sound. But don't know about the Ludwig.

You would need to spend some time tuning them up and see what kind of sound each kit provides. Having said that I've never tinkered with a yamaha kit and NOT got it sounding awesome within 10 minutes.

The Keystones are nice, but my vote goes to the Yamaha.

Go Yammy. Great recording drums. Tone. Easy to tune. Great drums.

I would go the Yammy, as Steve said they are very easy to tune. I like the overall look and sound of the Luddy but Yamaha just has that certain sound that no other drum can replicate.

At this point the choice is quite obvious ;) Thanks very much guys

I knew Yamaha was a reliable choice but I just wasn't sure about how it compares to Ludwigs.

Much appreciated!
