Good song mix.

Really not a fan of Luke's tone anymore, though.

Has drum technology improved along this manner?
Thoughts?

In some ways yes, in some ways no.

I holds true for most instruments that entry level stuff is on a whole different level these days. Technology not just from construction, but allowing to get the most out of materials etc.. it's just on a whole different level.

When I started playing, getting a guitar that had any hope of being some that could be played in tune would start at $1000. Too rich for me, so I played that $2-300 piece of crap Samick for a long while. Today I can, in good conscience, recommend a 3/4 size to my young students that go for around $100. Not professional instruments, but they're set up well, easy to play, play in tune and I've yet to see a flaw in any of them.

It's the same with drums. There ma always be the possibility of a dud, but tolerances are so much lower. The extra price tag is the materials, other componenets and where it was made. Not all types of instruments need fine tuning at the last stage.

Now better is a very subjective thing. Much of the character that we love in certain models of instruments may stem from things that an engineer would consider a design flaw. For me personally, I've seen many modern improvements that give a result that I don't really find desireable at all. Drums, guitars, effects. It seems to that sometimes meters and measuring have taken the place of experiment until it sounds good. There are so many other components too, though. The formats we share music on, compression, digital distortion.

Something is lost in the not working for it. Using a Kemper and sounding like the record.

The great ones sound like themselves on anything, but in some cases quirks of their personal axe play a really big role.

Many things sound too much the same and to be honest I don't find all my favourite players to have the best sound they've ever had right now.

Some cranky old farts often say things are too clean, but I'm not really in that category.

I'm sure there's someone who prefers an older version of the RC.

somehow i missed this concert. great gem if you dig the band. Toto has some progressive rock vibe

Indeed. Luke's lick at 1:04:30 is world class. He's such an icon.
