I went to catch Nick Mason last night. Of course, he is not a chops guy, and is inconsistent, and is in his mid-70s...

But, that was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. He just makes it all work, his feel and creativity, really something else. He does so much wrong, but then it is all right there in the music and everything is grooving like crazy. The guys were all having a good time, it was loose. He will play a fill in an odd place, but the way it lays in with the bass and guitar, it's like the resolution falls right into place, as if it were dropped off from 10ft up and timed perfectly. Great touch on his Paistes too.

Having learned most of the PF discography, I could hear some of the things that I used to do, and that felt pretty good. I miss playing those tunes. We would sometimes get really psychedelic and go for it like they did last night.

The crowd was going nuts.

Does Nick ever use double bass? If so, how?

Song endings and to build intensity in long jams like Astronomy Domine, but mostly he doesn't. They aren't the same size which is another odd thing about his drumming.

British prog drummers, no two are alike.

Portnoy is pretty sick here.

Tony was in the moment. Insane how hard he hit in this setting, but you can't deny his musicality and creativity. What a sound.

another GREAT band drummer in Jerry Mercer
this cat absolutely nailed his role in April Wine
relaxed feel w such taste--killed it in studio

when a band can take a simple groove feel and make it
sound new and fresh you really got something
