I'd say that Robert Plant Honeydrippers record is probably the most mainstream thing he's done, but that's definitely not pop.

Great clinic !! I am so glad this video surfaced. Dave exploded onto the scene at this time. It's interesting to see his technique now vs then. There are so many techniques to drumming. I like how he says a couple of times "the sticks should be in the hands as loose as possible- enough just to hold them". Also, keeping the "traditional grip" wrist straight with the arm when the palm is facing up or when the the palm or facing downward (no contortion of the wrist). This would help from receiving damage to the tendons and joints I believe. Great playing on this too! He was so fresh, and still continues to get better.

This live vid was impactful on drummers, and bass players. Sick stuff, it's still state-of-the-art in a lot of ways.

I'm not a fan of that 80s keyboard sound but this killed it.
This era reminds me of my time in college...I was in charge of
bands and Chick was set for a Sat night performance. This
new drummer named Dave Weckl was playing with him. There
were missing cables so I drove to Chick's house to pick them up.
Dave was flawless and my drum teacher said, "Drummer was great
but that bass player was insane!"

Must confess, never been a huge fan of "old" Weckl for the most part...too stiff!

I like to think of him as super-accurate. He leveled-up drumming for a lot of people. As influential as Gadd back then.

Excellent dose of Weck here.
I Love how cool his setup is - switching on and off the vocal mic - literally switching cameras himself. He always has an exceptional setup.

UPDATE - this is really long and has a lot of great info. Still enjoying!!
