I love everything Nik Kershaw has put out. Easily one of my favourite artists of all time.

When I lived in Philly I worked with two older cats who were WAY into Nik, and they got me hooked on "The Riddle" and "Human Racing" (when I first heard the tune "Easy" In swore it was Vinnie, "Don Quixote" knocked me out, the fade of "Bogart" was great too, everything floored me!)

I had a good relationship with a record store who knew I LOVED Nik, and one time I walked in and they had ordered "Radio Musicola" for me. Simon's half time shuffle on "Violet to Blue" floored me, as did Mark Bresizcki's playing on that record. That is also a GREAT record that gets a little overlooked by the next one.

Then a few years later, that same store ordered me "The Works," I remember really hoping that Simon and Mark had done it, and when I looked at the credits, I wasn't disappointed!!!! When I listened to it for the first time, I quickly realized that I was listening to a pop masterpiece. I studied that record HARD. Live drums with a sequenced bass part, woah! Later learning that Porcaro had tracked the whole record, and Nik replaced all but one track with Vinnie intrigued me, but it didn't take away from the genius of the record and the drumming. THANKS Peter Wolf!!!! I wish he had kept the Jeff tracks and would release them on line, here's still hoping, but I'm not holding my breath. I still worship that record.

Nik's "15 Minuites" is a GREAT record too, I didn't love "To Be Frank," "You've Got to Laugh" was a little better, with "Eight" Nik was back on track. The solo acoustic record is really good, and shows you how good of a songwriter that Nik is with no synths, and production.

The tracks that he sang on Tony Bank's "Still" are very good too.

Love Nik, he's a great artist, a fantastic songwriter, I wish the record biz had treated him better.
Hope he's doing well!

John's been doing some stuff.

I've mostly off the web now this last week. It's been almost 6 years where it's not been like that, but I really just want to practice and play all the time again.

It's more just pads and snare than anything right now, but the chops are coming back fast. Actually, been using the old Remo pad a lot and I'll be picking up a few tall stands so I just have all the stations I like to work at ready to go.

When I had the full time job it was always a plan to get better with both the classical stuff and drum corps stuff, so I'll probably focus mostly on that for a while before I balance things more out at the kit again.
