Anybody seen this?

Dont want to stir shit here but to me Neil Peart playing a solo is a worst cliche than an Italian person on a Vespa... Sorry.

Regardless of what anyone says.

Neil on Letterman. My boyhood dream.

Roy Haynes has been my favorite without a doubt during this week. He was the most interesting musically to me.

I've been a Neil Peart fan when I first started but the more I hear him, the less I like it. He always seems uncomfortable playing the drums.

The first two solos were ok.

I thought it was a fun week.

Yes, if they had asked me, I would have come up with a different line-up (though there would be little chance they wouldn't have used their own drummer). But I'm pretty sure we didn't pay any extra for the show. And I'm pretty sure that no other late night shows have done this before. And, I don't think any of us were forced to watch.

So with all that in mind, I thought it was a success (and I imagine we might have to wait quite awhile before it is repeated).

Buddy Rich set the bar pretty high for drummers going on talk shows (Johnny Carson Tonight Show, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, etc) as a drummer.

None of these came close to that high standard...but we know that there are some around these days who could playing -wise (Vinnie, Weckl, Mayer, etc)...but Buddy also had some personality.

Who could provide some of the personality-factor?

I hope Letterman does this again...I might even stay up to watch.

Did a search of "Buddy Rich Tonight Show"...never seen this one...playing on Shaughnessy's kit, good conversation (lots of pot references)...I am old enough to remember nearly every time Buddy was on the Tonight Show...tried not to miss it...

...Shaughnessy's toms were always too dead sounding...(looks like duct tape)

Buddy Rich set the bar pretty high for all of us (we don't measure up), and certainly on talk shows. That said, even Johnny Carson didn't have a week of drum solos.

Again, these weren't my drummer choices -- but that we can't just sick back and enjoy what we happen to have gotten says a lot about us.

Suddenly the Dream Theater vids aren't looking so bad.
