Video with my band from recent gig at Stubb's in Austin

Postby willyz » Wed Oct 26, 2011 7:23 am

Audio is not the greatest and there's a few fluffs in there- but we were having a lot of fun and the crowd was digging it! Fire away with any comments!

Cheers,

Good song and nice, creative playing. There can be hiccups and everyone should play to the best of their abilities but as Mike Portnoy once said 'I reserve perfectionism for the studio, life gigs is a different story.' :)

Thanks mate.

I don' think it's a terrible performance, but watching a video/listening to a recording of yourself in a live setting makes a lot of things really obvious- I feel I'm playing on top of the lead guitar and some of the vocals... too busy and too many fills in the first couple verses. It's very easy to get excited and get head of yourself when you're enjoying yourself. At the same time, I do think the feel is there for the most part and I'm fairly happy with the groove side of things.

Nice, Willy! As an added plus, Stubbs BBQ sauce is the bomb diggity.

Nice bouncy, slinky, funky tune and groove. I like your cymbal crashes on 2! And, I didn't find you to be too busy. You could have gone the Steve Jordan route with less fills, but, you were being you, playing you, and having a good time in a live setting. Good job and good tune with a good band. Keep it uP!

This is interesting for me- same song, totally different gig with totally different variables. The tempo feels a bit rushed here, and I recall this tune being early in the first set and we hadn't quite gotten the monitor mix right yet for all of us do to time restraints, so it was a bit hard for me to hear and lock in with everyone at times:

have you tried playing that tune straight eights chomping away? approach it a tad hip hop with the groove. you know make it bounce. sounds good what you are doing. to much hi hat movement going on for my taste. good tune.

A fill on every fourth measure kinda messes with the groove. Keep it simple. I would lay back on the snare, place it a bit behind the beat.
