Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread

Anyone else digging Zappa's Roxy and Elsewhere? Roxy and Elsewhere rocks :-), I played that record a lot. I also saw Dweezil Zappa on the Roxy & Elsewhere 2013 tour where they played the whole record (seven years ago now, time flies). Ryan Brown was Dweezil's new drummer for that tour, he's doi...

Re: Steve Holmes vids

Awesome playing, and recording. I'd love to know more about how you recorded this, microphones, mixing (eq, compression etc.). It sounds very good, especially given your small room.

Morgenthaler , I sometimes get to play with Henrik, the bass player, I've known him since his teens, awesome feeling having him on the side, like riding a freight train in the time domain if you know what I mean, same inertia, he has like a muscle memory in time, "absolute time", he can na...

Re: Can we just talk Gretsch drums a bit.

So I guess 14" is classic, but 16" would be more versatile. Not at all. The only benefit to the 16" depth is the ability to position the tom mount on the bass drum further away from the batter side. When it comes to sound and feel, 14" is what you want. The real issue is the 18&...

Re: Can we just talk Gretsch drums a bit.

I'm no hard hitter and most of the things I do are "non-amplified", jazz, folk music etc. so what I say is in that context. I feel a x14 is more "controlled", more "direct", compare a rack tom with a floor tom. At the same time they sound great with a microphone, there ...

Re: Can we just talk Gretsch drums a bit.

18x14, especially 14 on a 18.

All my BDs are x14, all I had that were not are sold, it just works, they occupy less space on the stage, they fit the trunk of the car etc.

Why not a x14?
