Brick and Mortar Studio Drum Demo Vid & NEW AUDIO RECORDING!

Postby matthughen » Mon Nov 21, 2011 7:59 pm

First- The video is NOT me on drums.
I am now 'manager' of a rec studio that I had been doing some projects at over the last several months. It has a great location fronting on Melrose near Labrea in Hollywood. This video is a recent project we have finished up. Our friend, Steve Aho, wanted to do a demo-video for his website so we filmed him and I edited the video. The sounds are pretty good and the video is multi-cam, HD and kinda happenin! Steve Aho is a great guy and a great drummer here in LA. Chk out his website: http://www.steveaho.com

If you are interested in the studio check out our website: http://www.brickandmortarstudios.com
We are on the facebook too: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brick-An ... 7000067606
If you need some rec studio services like drum track editing, recording demos, general tracking, v/o work, mixing and mastering, or if you want a demo vid of your own, let me know! PM here or hit us up on the Facebook page.

FWIW here is an audio example of our production capabilities. I produced and drummed on this track but its pretty basic stuff. Be warned this is a Jpop song and may not be your cup of tea, but you get the idea that the sounds are pretty good:

Hey, nice going Matt! Steve's a good drummer and you play exactly what's required for that jpop track. Is there a bit of reverb or something on your drums in that track?

I can't believe Steve Aho charges US$125 to record a drum track...seems kinda cheap to me!

Thanks, S.P. It's fun to play the simple stuff and goo for a particular sound. You bet there's some reverb on that snare. It was a 13" craviatto, but by the time we finished there is at least 1 or 2 other snare sounds in there as well some reverb and some slapback if I remember correctly. Probably a little reverb on the toms, but I didnt hit them but once or twice. BD was a Sub Kick. The room mic was a Peluso (U47 copy) and the toms were 421's i think.

As for Steve, he is not only a great drummer but he plays keys and vibes as well. I think you are right that $125 is cheap, but it is a crowded market here in LA!

Here is an isolated drum track that was recorded last week at Brick and Mortar Studios in LA (http://brickandmortarstudios.com/) using my 'For Sale' Sonorlite 22 BD and my D526 along with my friend's Radio King toms. The D526 has become one of my fav snares I have had the pleasure of owning. This track, according to the soundcloud tags, uses ..." No plug ins, no sound replacer, no EQ. Only bus compression, great mic's, pre's, tape, and drums."

The track:

Now that the CL Lites are for sale I will introduce thier sexy replacements:

And a few pics of the studio from the studio website:

Yeah it's been moded, but it is still a great drum and was picked up for a song - literally.
