Axis pedal dilemma.

So I contacted with someone who's selling an Axis double pedal model A-702, apparenly in impeccable state, for only 400 euros. I spoke with the guy and he seemed legal and very nice, told me i could go and try it without problem. Also I commented to him that I was sick of my Iron Cobras, and he said these are much lighter, and although they take sometime getting used to, that you can achieve much faster speed after that period (something echoed by many others).

I will be recording at the end of the year with my band and honestly I need a speech boost, some of the parts I cannot reach the appropriate speed.

But then I also spoke with a friend and Axis endorser and he was like, don't buy them, they're an old model and Axis pedals go bad with time etc etc.

So Im in a dilemma now. I can't spend more than 400 bucks in a pedal right now, and although this seems like a good offer, would I be messing up by taking it?

Plz give me some advice guys!

Try out some other pedals. I'm surprised you don't like your Iron Cobras. I tried some new ones at a store recently and they felt nice. That Speed Cobra is nice too. The pedal that blew me away though was the Yamaha Direct Drive. I may pick that up someday. I currently play a Yamaha and switched out the chain to strap, and I like it a lot. Pearl makes nice pedals too.

I think buying new is important. Bearings wear out over time.

I don't dislike the Iron Cobras to play regular stuff, but when it comes to playing fast they seem to have a top. Sometimes I get the right settings and can go to 180 bpm doing 16th notes, I can do some fairly fast 16 note triplets too, but I can't reach 16th notes at 205 bpm for instance and one of my songs needs that.

I also want to try one of these longboards because honestly the pedal shape of the cobras are not comfortable to me.

A problem where I live is that stores don't let you try stuff. I called a store the other day and they told me, yeah we let you try all you want, IF you buy.

Hey DSOP, those Yamaha direct drives have a great price and look like the footboard is the type im looking for. I sent an Email to Musik produktiv in Germany to see if they would allow me to try them with possibility of returning them if they're not what im looking for.

Can you tell me about your good experience with them?

The Speed Cobra is worth buying. It has a lighter feel than the Iron. I have Axis AL and demon drives and the Speed Cobras feel great. I tried DW and the footboard is just wrong for my foot, just like your IC's.

Yes, the Iron Cobras feel extremely heavy for me, I also hate the iron cobra patterns in the footboard, too sharp and obstructing , and also setting the spring tension is just horrible, I always mess up my fingers trying to change the settings and sometimes the bolt gets stuck at maximum tension and it's a bitch to unbolt.

What about the settings for the speed cobras Jim? I am gonna watch some videos of it and see what's up . thanks for the advice.

Gavin Harrison is using the Speed Cobra, and I think he used to use the Axis.

The Yamaha pedal (direct drive) felt telepathic to me, but I only tried it in the store, not on my drums.
