I guess this also is a personal hero thing. He was one of the first guys for me, playing along to Maiden records. High energy guy, solid and powerful, and played the music well.
Paul Dianno was a mother of a singer then too, both he and Clive made the sound of Maiden early. Dianno had a killer metal voice then. Close Halford, IMO.
And that to me was the classic Maiden sound, really heavy shit, and Murray and Smith were so goddamn good, especially dave Murray, insane. I caught the guys this past summer and they were still the same, Dave and Adrian were on another level playing, their playing was astounding.
Such a great metal show, lights and sounds were pulverizing.
But it's not the same old school Maiden.
