I guess this also is a personal hero thing. He was one of the first guys for me, playing along to Maiden records. High energy guy, solid and powerful, and played the music well.

Paul Dianno was a mother of a singer then too, both he and Clive made the sound of Maiden early. Dianno had a killer metal voice then. Close Halford, IMO.

And that to me was the classic Maiden sound, really heavy shit, and Murray and Smith were so goddamn good, especially dave Murray, insane. I caught the guys this past summer and they were still the same, Dave and Adrian were on another level playing, their playing was astounding.

Such a great metal show, lights and sounds were pulverizing.

But it's not the same old school Maiden.

RIP, Clive Burr.

Run To The Hills, and his drum parts in particular, have become almost necessary knowledge for any aspiring hard rockin' drummer

I started playing drums to some early Maiden... I´ll be listening those albums today again. Thanks Clive, wherever you are now...

Oh No!! First drum hero for me too. I really dug Maiden's first 3 albums. Played along a lot to all of them. Defined 80s metal. Killers killed!
Loved Di'Anno and Clive. Yes, one on the few drummers to have created an instantly identifiable beat on Run to the hills.
Also the verse grooves of Run to the hills and Number of the beast floored me at the time. Loved his Hi-hat sound.
I was disappointed when he left and was waiting for the next drummer with a brick and a lantern. But that intro fill on Where eagles dare sold me to Nicko.
They're both excellent rock drummers.
RIP Clive.
