Desert Island YouTube

In a way I miss the days when ANY new video (of Vinnie or whomever) was an exciting event, rather than today when we're drowning in clips... But back then I yearned for more so I guess I'm never satisfied. Anyhow, in an effort to temporarily reduce the information overload, let me ask you this: which 3 drumming clips from YouTube would you take with you on to a desert island (on an iPad, perhaps)? Which 3 things would sufficiently stir your soul to last you untold years alone..?

For me, choice one would be Sting Live in Oslo - it's the reason I started drumming and still my favourite Vinnie performance ever. I'm so glad it's on YouTube again so I could download it - I wore out my VHS copy years ago. (And if it's deemed cheating to have a whole show, I'd just take Seven Days...)

Choice two is Gavin's Slipping Away performance at PASIC. How often, these days, when we're all exposed to all but unlimited clips of amazing drummers doing amazing drumming, do you see something that is creative in a new way? Some of the stuff he does here... It just doesn't seem on the same page as a lot of the other creativity I've become used to.

Finally, I just love this Joel Rosenblatt solo over the Celtic Junction vamp. I don't have particularly detailed reasons, apart from that it's so much about touch and feel but he still has mad skills to help express himself with too. It's how I aspire to be able play, love it.

Anyone else want to suggest some quality over quantity? :D

Love South African music.

Now, the earlier Sting choice -- here's my thing with Sting. Great music, great musicians playing with him -- but his voice gets a little tiring pretty quickly. Day One on the desert island -- fine. Day Two -- ok. Day Three -- hmmm. Day Four, I'm climbing a palm tree and diving into the desert sand.

But, that's me.

I'm not playing the game but the Joel Rosenblatt vid was cool. I liked that. Thanks for posting it.
