best online step sequencers /apps

Hey - I use step sequencers regularly in teaching - both as a metronome replacement and a tool to understand notation (having students take staff notation and translate it into a step sequencer and the reverse) and also for understaning basic theory - programming in chords, arpeggios, etc.
The best one I've found is Step Seq

It works great - it is free, easy to use, easy to understand, attractive interface and does almost everything I'd like it to do, but it is pretty unstable, and many of my students can't use it at home.
What are some step seq browser apps, iphone and android apps that people like to use, that would be suitable for beginners to work on?
thanks
