I found THIS site sometime ago. Mark plays some really nice stuff in the few videos in the audio/video section.

Good stuff. Every once in a while, I'll just happen to have a Gino tune with him playing on it run through my mental jukebox.

I've got to dig 'Brother to Brother' out and give it and the couple Ponty albums he plays on, a thorough listening. He plays some really fantastic, weird stuff on a couple of tracks off of Z's (Dweezil & Ahmet) 'Shampoo Horn'.langmick wrote:Good stuff. I still can't believe Mark is gone. So sad. Such a great guy, and a big influence on me.

Didn't you study with him?DSOP wrote:I still can't believe Mark is gone. So sad. Such a great guy, and a big influence on me.
I just realized that by complete coincidence, that when I posted this yesterday, it was Mark's birthday.

If you don't mind sharing, what did you guys go over?
Re: Mark Craney
I had a bunch of questions about the Brother To Brother record, so we went over a bunch of those drum breaks. Beyond that, it was mainly playing time, different grooves, tempos, etc. I think I wrote a bunch of stuff down and may still have it somewhere. He tried to hook me up with some gigs too, which was super above and beyond.
A few years later, I actually auditioned for Gino Vannelli and played Brother To Brother as well as a few other tunes for the audition! That was a trip too. Enzo got the gig, and rightly so.

Thanks for posting.
Mark was a great talent, kinda in the old Steve Smith/Rod Morgenstein vein. Such a shame he's gone.
