Thanks! I've heard the archaic term, trap set, referring to a drum kit. But, I've never before heard of the genre, trap music.Pocketplayer wrote:Take your jazz hats off boys and girls...how this does not have

^^^ nice on the flam stuff. Any fill or sticking that has a flam I’m sold!
I dig the vids Steve did. flam rolls! Never saw or heard them until he brought these goodies to me ears arrrr. I use it all the time. Over the bar line stuff. Stretch them out like gummy bears and make them loose as a goose. Vinnie kills flams. Some guys play way to many floor Tom snare flams fills like Benny Greb. It needs to stop.

This album sounds AMAZING today much less in the 60's...
LOVE this...Howard Roberts along with Bob Bain, Tommy Tedesco
were masters of the smooth jazz guitar...this is some great
drumming imo
More greatness...Barry Galbraith...has that Beverly Hillbillies guitar sound I love!
a perfect example of how LAME the greatest guitar player or drummer or is...
this guy plays lights out as clean as it gets...

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
Makes me actually sad watching these videos of Deen...just crazy your
drummer sounds almost exactly like one of the most iconic rock singers ever.
Most listening to this would not know that wasn't Perry. He sounds more
Perry than Augeri or Pinnel to me.
Deen just did a recent interview...seems to be doing better, locked
into a recovery 12-Step program...was VERY candid and tries to
practice daily without any gig in the near future. Very much the
'one day at a time' philosophy of life.
EDIT
OH WOW...this was 2-09-18!!! Geez...in that interview he has done
nothing...this had to be INCREDIBLY emotional for him!!! He sounds
AMAZING...his phrasing is JUST like Steve!
Watched all of these videos for this show...WOW...all old stuff
mixed with some newer...Greg Rollie back in band??? Jon Cain
piss Neil off too much? Def Lep tour then what?
This is one of several from the first three LP's that is NEVER played!
Deen is on fire...THANKS Lang for this!

Hey Rodge...what was it about Omar that speaks to you over all the others?
What is one thing you have taken from Omar?
If you interviewed him after the fanboy moment (lol)...what would you
like to ask him?

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
His feel/groove, his "octopuss" style, he plays with a lot of passion fire and energy, yet it seems that he does it effortless.
Back in the days I was REALLY into "Bring On The Night Live", I mean REALLY. And from there I kept that little "rest" between the fill and the down beat if you see what I mean. Often he does not play the fill on the entire bar, he stops often on the fourth beat of the bar, then the attack on the 1st beat of the next bar is really effective.
He does it often here :

I would ask him some very personnal question, that maybe he'd ask me to keep his answer for me.
Otherwise I'd be just happy to hang with him, in a fanboy mode, seriously.
But I did it longtime ago, I was a lil' shy so it's ok.
Fire, joy and passion.

Thanks Rodge...you put words to what I always felt!!!Often he does not play the fill on the entire bar, he stops
often on the fourth beat of the bar, then the attack on the 1st beat
of the next bar is really effective.
Jeff Porcaro LOVED that Sting moment...like looped
it...blown away by his freedom and chops and expression.
Said several times he wished he could play like that.
That clip Low Life has those "flurries" of energy and if
I tried to play like that it would not flow...it would sound
stiff like that Dire Straits intro played by Terry Williams
and they had Omar for that record! Are you kidding me!
Omar was MADE for that intro!!! How could that happen???
If Omar played that into around the time of Bring on the Night...
he would have gone into the drum pantheon...at the time it
was THE most recognizable drum part for the decade...that song
was HUGE. Played non-stop on MTV at the time...
