I like that Tony always, 99% of the time perhaps, makes me ask "Why?" and it is not a question I'm asking myself about the chopsy stuff.

Take the intro to Fred. The single hi hat mote at the end of it, why did he do that? Different timbre, it's like a tag, but it also connotes a feeling, a suggestion...

It tells me something...but it's obviously non-verbal. And no special coordination or left hand wankery...nothing of the sort. But it kills and is drumming as marvelous as any pyrotechnic display that you could watch on youtube. The middle snare drum break...why in the world did he play what he played there? Where did that expression come from?

The metaphysics of Tony's playing, maybe even the molecularization of his playing, alright, are to me, the highest form of musical performance that I've ever heard.

It's beyond any technique, it is more intellectual than merely playing harder and faster. It's elemental to the human spirit...it is hard to put into words but I know it's there.

I watched the movie Altered States the other day, it's like that. A window of perception to the mind, after all, that's what language is, as well as non-verbal communication.

Could be why he hit so hard and played so loud, it might have been the only way he could deliver his message, by forcing it out of his body in that mode.

Could be that more musicians need to be freer and more open with smoking pot. :o)

hey man great job on the track but if you're asking for criticism I'll say this, you've got a wrong note in the bass line. It's the lowest note. I don't know the bass line so I can't tell you what note it's supposed to be. I guess it'd be the second chord in the verse section but I'm guessing as I'm not actually familiar with the music of the song. Again, great job! :)

that actually crossed my mind believe it or not. I've uploaded two new versions of the track with the corrected bass line; one track with a 2 bar click + click throughout and one track with a 2 bar click +no click in the remainder of the song.

I felt the suggestion was well founded after some thought and further listening (and that a bass couldn't produce a note lower than E0, LOL).

I immediately silk screened "TONY WILLIAMS" onto my denim jacket soon after hearing this.
That's a killer story!

"...In 1974, Williams put together a new Lifetime featuring Bum's Rush holdovers Webster Lewis on keyboards and Laura 'Tequila' Logan on vocals, along with former Cream/Lifetime bassist Jack Bruce and British guitarist Allan Holdsworth. This lineup, sometimes referred to as Wildlife, recorded an album's worth of material at Atlantis Studio in Stockholm Sweden that has never been officially released. ..."

not to get this off topic, but I read this on wikipedia. Is this floating out online to anyone's knowledge?
