I thought she sounded great. She sounded like Cindy, not Dennis. I guess if they wanted someone to sound like Dennis up there, they would have just had Dennis keep playing, huh? I would say our drums are personalized to our own playing, so playing someone else's kit isn't going to be a perfect match.

Don't forget, she had the Lenny Kravitz's gig for a long time, she knows the world of rock. Her backbeat is strong and in the pocket. She definitely has jazz tendencies and to me, most of my favorite drummers have a little jazziness to them.

I like her sloppiness...to me, she plays with a lot of heart. I don't like drum solo's much at all anyways...but a good drum solo doesn't have to require "perfectly machine-like precisely executed 32nd notes" in order to be a good solo. They just have an expression of your idea's based on your playing personality. I like her expression.

I dunno, Dennis's sticks are very thin and he has no problem. I think it is just a combination of a lot of factors to why it sounds bad. A bad drum sound makes bad drumming worse.

tough crowd? not a touch crowd at all. you either dig it or you don't. she didn't sound good at all in the Carlos clip. kind of makes ya cringe. have seen her on other youtube clips where she's doing her Tony thing and she kills. she's working so she's doing something right.

Dennis is an amazing musician, but I've never been fond of his sound. Even when I heard him live, from only a few feet away, I did not care for his drum or cymbal sound.

Sounded like 70's Tony Williams to me.. If he was playing on that kit it would sound the same.. Not a fan of that drum sound..
Choked crap... I think Cindy actually hits harder than Dennis in those two videos.. just not in the right spots on the drums.. Thus a weaker sound.

It's almost like you'd have to change your playing on that setup like you would on an electronic kit.. some of the nuances and vibe you rely on the drums to produce aren't there so you'd have to scale down the subtleties because any unevenness is magnified tenfold... It's like playing guitar with ductape on the strings,, yuck..

for the record, the drums were resampled. the engineer is a friend (bass player for Craig Chaquico).

I enjoyed this a lot more than Dennis solos. I love Dennis as an accompanist(one of the best on the planet) but his solos are too much just silly pyrotechnics. Cindy has a lot of fire. I have accused her of being a Tony clone, but I think I'll revisit my opinion. Music is about pouring your heart out and she has the willingness to go for it. Technique means nothing.

I agree that that those drums sounded terrible.
