Put me down for Cross Stick too.
Carter Beauford is my cross stick hero.
Gets a great tone, a (importantly) consistent tone, yet does it without his hand anchored on the head so he can play another note on another instrument right before or after.
Starting at 3:35 or so...

OMG! I couldn't agree more! I can't come around to accepting all that dead-sticking/cross-sticking stuff. It just doesn't sit right with my brain. And he does it ad nauseum.

I call it a rim click because I always forget to call it a cross stick.

Just hit me - it's one of the few things I think Simon doesn't nail. His cross-stick sounds sloppy, hollow and "unprecise" (sound wise) to me.

Yes - but just to clarify, I love him in pretty much all other regards

Every time I hear Jimmy Cobb's cross stick sound, It feels so right.
I tell myself that he's the master at it.
Then, the next time I hear a cross stick from anyone else, I start to doubt myself, because they sound good, too.
Then I tell myself that if you play music that requires lots of cross stick, you better be good at it!
