From Sweden we now have Abba, Zlatan, Per Lindvall & Dirty Loops..
I think they are great and they are playing the stuff themselves on instruments.
Sometimes the play live with backing tracks...
For every great thing in art there is always somebody who have to make negative comments and point a finger...
Make great things small..
i guess that´s human nature..
All musicians who hear this stuff know they are great and WHERY skilled. But of course one does not have to like the music...

Did I say something negative? I just said let me know when they play live in front of an audience, and then I said where are all those voices coming from.
It's obvious that they're excellent musicians, but come on. Let's put it all in perspective.

Ok, some backing tracks live, as many bands...but they use TOO MANY BACKING TRACKS and it sounds sterile for me.
They are a trio and want to sound live like a 10 piece band, and they use TOO MANY BACKING TRACKS for me.
It sounded fresh and cool in the first youtube video some years ago, but now I don´t feel the same.
They can play, that´s for sure, but I would like to listen to them on 100% real playing, this is: VOICE, KEYBOARD, BASS AND DRUMS. Live. No recorded parts.
Maybe it would be the way to recover the freshness (for me).
Do you imagine Tower of Power (imaginary trio) doing those backing tracks thing to sound like the real Tower of Power?

Yes that's all fine but let's not get carried away with nationalistic pride and lose our objectivity. 'Great things in art'? It's just three guys playing their interpretation of pop music, pretty much sticking to form and progression of the original with maybe a little extra harmony here or there, but that's it. It just seems like we're falling into the modern 'X-Factor' type mentality where everything is 'genius' or 'ground breaking' which is quite tiring to be honest.
Although you are perfectly within your rights to call it art, I would simple post a link to the following work which will explain the sentiment far more succinctly that I could in words.

Tunes, performance and musicianship is all there. I dig the stuff. But only for a quick fix on a link from HOD. It's entertaining stuff! I couldn't listen to this stuff in the car or at home. I think its cause there's to much TNT. Be nice to hear them a tad stripped down. But that would take away from what they are going for. Love the hot over the top in your face production. It's mixed so well. Glad these guys are still doing what they do. Their freaking kids for Pete's sake. Bass player looks like Adam Lambert.
I got nuthin as usual
I'm half Swedish.

This is HOD...a forum not directly linked to this type of music, sooooo
My take is simple, if these guys played from a local high school, where
do you draw the line saying, "Great talent and ability"--they had the
discipline to stick with their craft, can play music at a high level,
have focus...they did something with their life
TO
Now that you want to get beyond the local scene, you open yourself
up to a whole new level of critic and comparison. This is a great
compliment, but it can also suck you dry.
They broke through via Youtube, now what? Is there a market for this
style of jazzy pop music for the 15-28yo market? Do they do originals
now and break from covers? Will their audience grow or will they fade?
Most "kids" watching the live performance have no idea who David Foster
is...and don't care. They know Miley and Katy and Justin...Britney is old
for that market.
Good for them. Any type of sucess and recognition today is a merit. I keep
coming back to marketing...packing your van and doing gig to gig is old school.
Youtube and social media new school. American Idol said, "Gain millions off
fans on TV and hope that spills into getting support or backing from someone."
Then...if there is a "Q" rating (large appeal usually based on personality) we will
market you until culture is forced to accept or reject. Short life span but will
generate revenue. If you last more than three years, that's a bonus.
Is Katy Perry so much more talented than the other girl on her heels? I think not.
Now she is on commercials, MTV gives her hour long spots...promo her to death.
Get her image stamped deep and hope she doesn't self-destruct in the meantime.
The gal who had real talent sadly did self-destruct, Amy Winehouse.

Never understood what´s the big deal with those guys... I don´t really care if they do play live; those "performances" are over processed to my tastes... Plenty of other bands that deserve more recognition...

'X-Factor' type mentality where everything is 'genius' or 'ground breaking'
Well i don´t think they are genius or ground breaking..
I just think they are skilled and a fun band..that makes it in my care on my way to my drum students and i was tired of little negative comments that seem to
slamming up in this forum a little to often..
Now that they have a record deal they might have the money to hire back up vocals..so that everybody here can catch them free on youtube..

Zlatan is really INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Huge fan of Per, a friend of mine too.
And it's alway fun to see a little bit of "Dirty Loop", I have the same feeling than Kurtis, a lil' fix is always fun even if I can't watch a full clip, they are fun and they can play !!!

Genuine question, who is the Zlatan of the drums? Needs a combination of genius, audacity to try things no one else would, but also a hot head and and a sometimes spiteful attitude...
