I'd say a vintage CoB Supra 5x14, a solid shell Radio King 5x14, and probably a nice Brady 6.5x14. I have a few Supras and RKs, but don't have a Brady... yet. The ones I've heard are amazing.

But I use my Acrolite's a LOT. They are such a workhorse of a snare. Sound great, massive tuning range, get comments all the time (both live and recorded), and they cost about $100.

YamahaPlayer, could you post a couple of clips of the Acro in action?
I´m always tempted but didn´t pull the trigger yet...

Not at all. I would love me an acrolite, but I just don't need another snare.

I'd say one deep metal snare, one deep wood snare and something completely different like a 10" or 12".

-Live I can't live without my Pearl 6.5x14 brass shell Steve Ferrone drum. I can tune it up for funk and pop and jazz. I can tune it really low for Rock / Singer Schlongwriter stuff

-Studio (rock/pop/groove) I can't live without my 1920's Ludwig 5x14 Pioneer Snare (it's a black beauty shell without the engraving).

-Live. I've gotten tons of comments touring with my 5 x14 Maple Slingerland Baby Blue Pearl RE-Issue. Got it at GC in the early 90's. Toured with it a lot, always cut and has a great tone. The Shell was splitting and Chris at Drum Paradise reglued the shells and put fat snares on it.. it's killing. Pop or Jazz.

3 is tricky, Dunnett titanium 6.5 is my absolute favourite, Ludwig millennium brass 5" is the best metal snare I could own other than the Dunnett. And my pearl custom classic, one piece maple with brass hoops has the rest of it covered, I have all the snares I ever wanted, but those 3 are the ones I will clutch on my death-bed.

The weckl maple with a yamaha maple top hoop is also gorgeous, and the Akita jimbo will do most things, even rock.
Second to the Dunnett for big metal is my weckl aluminium 6.5" deep, think bonzo, but with two snare mechanisms. Though I don't know of another one anywhere.

I owned the Jimbo snare for a few years and used it for pop/rock gigs. Great snare. I sold it when I bought the Elvin Jones drum.
The Elvin is nice high or low.
