Was this during his transition from Yamaha to Gretsch? It seems like the YAMAHA logo is taped over on the bass drum head. I remember Vinnie playing a prototype Yamaha maple kit (natural finish, old Tour-style lugs) on one of the Sting tours (1990?) and then he got "caught" in a few Sting performance videos playing G's...

if I remember correctly, this footage is from PASIC in San Antonio Tx - I was at this show (if the camera had moved a little more to the right, I'd be in the picture...)
it certainly looks like the clinic I saw...mid to late 80s -I want to say '87 but i'd have to look it up to be sure of the year...

Yeah, they definitely look like RCs. What I was alluding to was that it appears that the logo has been taped-over, and I was curious if perhaps he'd already left Yamaha by the time of this clinic, thus the reason for the tape.
It would seem odd to have the logo taped over if VC was still with Yamaha at the time.
