He's slightly over the top but not overly so. I think his statements on Kurt Cobain were harsher than this.

I always recommend to the "sideline folks" (which include people stateside and abroad) who are ignorant on an array of subjects from so-called police states to gun ownership to actually talk to police and/or gun owners or persons involved with subject 'X' and get their perspective. The major news media outlets ALL have an agenda.

As does Ted. His talk is cheap. Anyone who lives in the area of his "ranch" or surrounding states knows what's up. That guy is buying water rights up like no tomorrow.... he's also got a big thumb in the fracking thing. Guy ain't rich as he is from his lame music, he's been VERY smart about his money.

Gun laws have been relaxed under Obama. I live in CO and own lots of weapons. I know first hand what (the)gun laws impact. We can shoot in more places now, because of the Obama Administration passing various state/federal forest shooting laws. It's really funny, because the very stanch "republican" types you find in the gun stores are forced to admit it, but you can really see the strain of the "party lines" when it meets reality.

My favorite is a law that was passed 2 years ago by Obama that says if you use a firearm in the course of self defense, and it's rightful defense, but you owned or possessed the gun illegally, they can't prosecute the gun charges.


If you guys want the hot tip, and it would only apply to particular states, buy assault rifles now. Come Nov-Dec the price will sky rocket, sell them. Watch the prices drop back to normal around Feb-March. It happens EVERY election year, like clock work. The super right get scared a democratic president will "take away their guns", the demand for guns and ammo sky rockets for a few months. Inevitably nothing really happens and the prices return to about normal after. Nough said.

Actually, Obama had nothing to do with that. Certain states passed "stand your ground" laws, which were actually written by ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Counsel), a corporate backed organization that writes extreme, far, right wing "model legislation" for republican state legislators to vote for. In other words, republican legislators don't even write their own bills. ALEC does it for them. ALEC's primary benefactors are Charles and David H. FWIW, Stand Your Ground laws are not useable if the firearm is 'illegal." There is a law in Chicago that says illegal possession of firearms will not be be prosecuted if used in self defense, but it is not a federal law. It was passed in 2004 and Obama voted against it.

Here's my response: (1) Gun laws only stop citizens from killing citizens with guns. Perhaps some killings wouldn't occur if guns, an effective and convenient way of killing, were not readily available. But, if one is determined to kill, he/she doesn't need a gun to do it. (2) IMO, on balance, the downside of gun rights is, at least, balanced by the upside of a citizenry capable of defending itself from the police. In that respect, the police in America are massively overarmed compared to the citizenry. History establishes that the degree of civility of a society is always in a state of flux and always a temporary condition. The Ted Nugents of the World wouldn't have it any other way.

Sorry have to disagree. I am a regular citizen and I do not kill people. Anyone who kills someone is not a regular citizen. Once you attempt to gravely harm someone you cease to be a regular citizen. I should not have to jump thru hoops if I want to have a gun in my home in case one of those violent non regular citizens decides my house is a target. nor should I be told that I cannot at all. the violent non regiular citizen does not care about the laws and by nature will circumvent them.

It's not about you and me. It's about tendencies and statistics in different western societies.

The issue is not whether citizens "attempt to gravely harm someone else".
The issue is "when you feel wronged, which tools do you have at your disposal to answer back"

1 If you have only your mouth (shouting, screaming), it is impossible to kill someone,
2 If you have -and use- your fists, fighting someone, it is unlikely you will kill them, though not impossible,
3 If you have -and use- a knife to react to the wrong-doing, it is quite possible you will kill someone,
4 If you have -and use- a gun, it is (as the case of the US will show you) highly likely that you kill someone.

It's not very different on the bigger scale. We -the western societies- don't want Iran to have nuclear weapons. Not because we don't expect
or justify a reaction if they feel wronged, but because of the potential grave dangers for the world community
if they have -and use- an atomic bomb to answer back.

It's not very different from the original topic of this thread either.
Do we want our governments to be able to shut down HOD because of 2 or 3 (or 20 or 30) people who
share illegal downloads here? No, it is an overreaction to the problem. 1500 members (or how many we are here)
shouldn't suffer from the wrongoding of a few others here on HOD. And certainly, the government shouldn't
have the right to watch our every move online.
