Went through this thread...lot of videos deleted by uploader or
Youtube blocked.
This is Jeff at his best and near the end of his life...only TOTO
could write a fusion-esq tune and still keep it groovin' with a
"commercial edge"--we hear Jeff's new phase of fills. Mike's
bass is SO deep and low-end (love this)...@3:24 TOTO just goes into
this crazy passionate feel and then pops out the other side.
For those interested, there is a good write up on the Kingdom of Desire
session below video. Some have disputed the gear choices (snares) used,
but I will take the reporter at his word.

This guy does a pretty good job at covering Jake...his hats need more emphasis and
deeper edge. Snare is way too thin, but toms and bass drums kill.

Listen to his confidence and balls. He is writing new drumming with each measure. How he hits the structure, each time. Isn't that how drums are played? 1977.

Note how that funky groove in '77 has a Jake to the Bone feel/vibe to it
almost 15 years later?
I updated my site as of late and found a bunch of stuff lurking never seen before
newly posted.
Two new 2017 articles, DRUM! and an interview from Jeff's father Joe honoring
Jeff's birthday with a great added reflection from Jay Graydon on Jeff.
Some Steely Dan concerts from '74 w/Jim Hodder and early
Sony & Cher stuff when he was 18 to name a few. What makes it fun is the
comments, one guy who went to High School w/Jeff and saw Rural Still Life--
his HS band. Dude left HS early to do the Sony & Cher Show at 17 in order to
get money for art school then said what the hell, I guess I can make a living
playing drums! Glory days of the early 70's...playing a gig in the Valley when
Fagen and Becker happened to be there and said what the hell...lets have this
kid play with us! You can't make this stuff up!

It's like a sped up Actual Proof, and tighter with more power. Wild!

It's not as obvious on that version, but if you listen to the same tune on the " Greg Mathieson Super live At The Baked Potato" CD, the groove Jeff is playing is his version of TOP's " Soul Vaccination" verse section!
Great stuff on that disc - any Porcaro fan should check it out....
