What I like most about his drumset, is that he can play anything at any time with either hand because it's set up that way.

That drumset is actually offensive. 3 underpriviledged kids (at LEAST) could each get a full set off of this. Problem is that we have heard Mangini on a small kit in the vid from the MD Fest and it was unbearable. This says alot.

agreed on all points there...

I like rock drummers who get big sounds out of small sets...guys like Matt Cameron are great for that.

It appears the Mikes (both Portnoy and Mangini) both take after the Neil Peart school of "more is more." Well, no, not necessarily (IMO.)

At least Bozzio CAN sound great on a small kit...

These types of bands and drummers can inspire kids to become musicians because they're so over-the-top in so many ways. Hopefully, once these kids play for a few years, their curiosity will lead to them to discover other artists via their own investigation, or via reading about the influences of their "heros".
