K. Zildjian Istanbul

Postby gretsch-o-rama » Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:35 pm

This seems to be a pretty rare topic here as Steve tends to scare off the Jazz Nazis.lol I'm selling a few Zildjian Istanbuls and I'm trying to gather information on the stamps, etc. so I can date these puppies. Can anyone briefly explain the differences between the three stamps? I believe they would be called Old, transitional, and New Stamps. I've seen all of these stamps and if there's a difference between them, it's minimal.

I've snooped around cymbalaholic(which seems to be a den of Jazz Nazism)lol and they've erased the main info. in their K Zildjian Istanbul thread. I mean, why is it such a closely guarded secret? Or am I just not looking in the right place?

Uhhhh... don't forget to give your buddies over here at HOD first crack that those puppies before you release them to the general public :)

Even if I'm not in the market for new cymbals (though, I usually always say that and end up with an extra ride cymbal in my trunk shortly after), I would be curious to know what you find out about these guys :D

Actually, I think that jazz is okay on HOD, as long as you macht schnell!

I've always found "jazz nazi" a tortured term, since the Nazis hated jazz because it was played by Blacks and Jews. I can't even repeat -- in English or German -- was the NSP actually called jazz. They tried to convince German men that listening to jazz made you gay. The underground jazz swing clubs were grounds of resistance to fascism, and the music played a role in keeping freedom alive in those places. It was literally the soundtrack of freedom.

But I didn't mean to turn this thread into more than what it was. ;)

The word "Jazz" was originally slang for sexual intercourse. :)

Bump and I've figured out what era they are from: 20" Ride is a New Stamp, 18" crash ride,I believe, is an old stamp IIIb, and the 14" hihats are mismatched intermediate stamp and new stamp. IF ANYONE HAS A NICE GRETSCH OR SONOR KIT AND WOULD LIKE TO TRADE FOR THESE I'M OPEN TO OFFERS. I would like 10, 12, 14 ,16, 22. Thanks!
