If not, then what's this? Or does he just play Gretsch in the studio like every other good drummer? lol

Everyone needs to try a decent drumset some time.

OK now I've got to get a Possible Chops subscription. Surely...

I must confess, I have a Sonor fixation as well. I feel like if you're going to be fixated on any two drum companies it may as well be them given the long history of both. It''s kinda cool, the thing that sounded the best 50 years ago is still the best sounding thing. imo of course

That's kind of a weird statement, because technically speaking, neither companies are even remotely close to what they were. Ownership changes, manufacturing changes, raw material changes, etc...
I mean come on dude. Gretsch wasn't having Keller make their shells in 1883... or 1933... or 1953... totally different company from then and now.
It's ALL about the branding and your statement proves how effective brand marketing is.
It's like "Wells Fargo" bank. Wells Fargo bank was bought out in the 50's or something. They (the parent owners) just kept the brand because it was a good brand/logo/scheme.

I've owned Gretsch drums 30 years ago, and I have new Gretsch drums purchased three years ago. Their newer stuff is far superior in every way.Josiah wrote:That's kind of a weird statement, because technically speaking, neither companies are even remotely close to what they were. As for Sonor, I've never played their stuff, but I'm definitely curious.
I'm actually pretty excited to see what Premier comes out with now that they have turned things around.

I've hit them all and they all sound like drums. Especially snare drums.
Re: Gary Novak with Gretsch?
Exactly. Liking a company name because they've been around a long time is just silly. Just play on the products and go from there.Paul Marangoni wrote: I've owned Gretsch drums 30 years ago, and I have new Gretsch drums purchased three years ago. Their newer stuff is far superior in every way.
All said and done, it's still just a drum.
