If we are raggin' on Dave, my 0.02 is---the L push into mounted toms and played w/ R hand.
I can dig the tonal effect, but I think it is so overused during solos, esp earlier w/ Chick
and playing solos from drum room and with other leaders....but Dave is the best !!!

Without a doubt. Dave is incredible. One of the greatest ever. He and Vinnie were the top of the tree during that late 80s/early 90s era. I just wish Dave would stop popping that & with the snare and hi-hat bark before the 1 when he's playing an 8th note groove. Somebody tell him.
Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave
Maybe that's why DW is not in the Pop/Rock music's world ? I'd say that he doesn't really have that culture inside him, the culture of playing simple just for the song, with no embellishment.
It's obvious also when he plays Stevie's "Do I Do".
PS : embellishments work so beautiful with Vinnie, can somebody can tell me why ?

I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

I dunno, I think he's perfectly willing to lay it down if necessary.

I'm not saying Dave can't lay it down - obviously he can! And this gig is a fun casual setting so hardly a studio making a record type scenario.
What I'm saying is he rarely plays 5 or more identical and uninterrupted bars and that video supports that opinion. I think maybe once up front he does - for the remainder he deviates after bar 4.
Feel free to site any other examples from past recordings or videos where he plays 5 or more identical and uninterrupted bars. I believe there's track on Hard Wired where does - no other examples come to mind.
PS I Love Dave we're just having fun analyzing his habits - its not a judgmental context here.

Found this. He laid it down with Richard Tee. Sounds great.
