Surprised we haven't done this before! Of course there is no perfect
snare, but to each of us, there is a perfect sound that makes us go
WHOA inside.
Stumbled upon this which made me think of this thread. I LOVE this
dry pop. Any idea of what kind and other details lurking within that
drum encyclopedic mind of yours?

I have my faves which have been mentioned enough, but these are the clips that inspired those choices.

Good thread Pocketplayer and yeah, I really like that snare sound too, very nice and woody.
Rocky Bryant's snare sound here, amazing pop!

Likewise, this Yamaha Club Custom snare played by Jimmy Branly sounds incredible to me.

Nice selections!
Morg: doesn't surprise me you have so many flavors to your snare pallet.
Ditto on that Dire Strait tune! Early 90's sound I love.
So my selection cried out WOOD. Doesn't surprise me, almost gave me
a woody. Funny thing is I know what I like I just don't think too deeply
about the what. I almost assume it is a Ludwig Supraphonic in the end.
Looking forward to see this thread grow hoping for those "MUST HAVE THIS SOUND"
samples or loved this since I was a kid kinda thing which takes me to these
samples;
junior high school...literally obsessed with this snare and love it more today!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD9EwP7rUOs
Snare at 1:32...kinda had a Bozzio pop from that first Missing Persons LP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sauQ6TsdT_c
More of that boxy pop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DMSlx9jkqc
Had to include...CRACK of the finest kind!

Re: Official Perfect SNARE Thread
That Buckinghams tune reminded me yet again how I've really grown to love the drum sound from the late 50's and early 60's.
Somehow, even though it was long ago, it feels fresh and new; it makes me think of what a great thing a drum set is.
The Survivor tune was like a revival of it, it had an "immediate" feeling.
I thought the Skanderborg was as good as anything.
I enjoyed the Spin Doctors a lot, also.
A couple that come to mind, I'm not sure why...
This one makes me feel like I'm listening from inside the drum:

I like the snare here because there's not a whole lot of it, which makes is seem more special:

I think Dion Derek is one of the most underrated drummers I know of.
I LOVED BRWPTR and even though today I find it much too gated, I still have a romantic memory of that time.
Dion's snare sound is sort of Living Colour meets Spin Doctors.
