Agreed. While many studio players have GREAT chops, not many are "allowed" to use them in the studio! More important things than that, anyway.

Vinnie, however, is always musical, always a joy to listen to, whether he's playing delicate ballads with Faith Hill, groovin' with Sting, playing heavy rock/fusion with Jeff Beck, or playing DANGEROUSLY with Zappa!

i can't think of any other drummer that has the musicality and ability he does. you hire him to do his thing. he plays two takes. one crazy take they would never use and the other not so crazy. they even hire him to just play two and four! he's a genius. if i where a famous drummer and did a drummer album i would hire him to play the drums.
